He Gives the Victory

Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:50–58
Read 1 Corinthians 15:50-57. Use the below questions and thoughts for personal reflection and group discussion.
1. Paul declared the final triumph of God’s work in our redemption – our full spiritual and physical resurrection will happen “in a flash” and “in the twinkling of an eye.” “We will all be changed” whether alive on earth at the time of Christ’s return or not.
What Paul does not tell us is when this will happen. In fact, this lack of detail on “when” is consistent in scripture, for example, read Matthew 24:36-51. Why do you think the Lord does not tell us exactly when He will return?
2. Paul said “the power of sin is the law.” What did he mean by this? For help, read Romans 7:7-15. Yet Paul goes on to say “thanks be to God! He gives us the victory in Christ Jesus!” How has Christ given us the victory over sin’s penalty and the law’s condemnation?
How does Jesus even now give us victory over sin’s current power over us? For help with this question read Philippians 2:12-13; 1 Corinthians 10:12-13; Hebrews 4:13-16; Galatians 2:20.
3. Consider your present struggles with temptation, be it anger, selfishness, a lack of love for others, lust, greed, etc. Come to the Lord now with these battles and ask the Lord to give you victory over these areas. Ask Him to help you to make use of any weapons, be it His word, prayer, or fellowship, to walk in the victory He gives through the power of the Holy Spirit.
