Read 1 Corinthians 15:21-26. Use the below questions for personal reflection and group discussion.
1. Our Dire Situation
Paul tells us that “in Adam all die.” What has happened to all that come from Adam that makes self-rescue impossible and how has this happened? Why must salvation for mankind come from outside the line of Adam’s descendants?
2. The Enemies of Christ
Paul says that after the second coming, Jesus will deliver “the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power” (1 Corinthians 15:24). These rules and powers include Satan, sin, and death itself.
Consider Genesis 3:1-6 where Satan first appeared to destroy Adam and Eve. Also consider Zechariah 3:1-4 and John 8:43-45. Can you explain how these passages, and others, e.g., 2 Corinthians 4:4; 2 Corinthians 2:6-11, relate to how Satan continues to work today to destroy mankind?
3. The Victory of Christ
Paul says Jesus will finish the victory He began at Calvary and put “all His enemies under His feet.” Consider Colossians 2:13-15 and try to explain Jesus’ “means” to defeat Satan, sin, and death. Why is the cross so crucial for defeating these enemies?
4. Pray!
Spend some moments in prayer reflecting on the plight of mankind and our need for deliverance. Ask the Lord to help you see the reality of the spiritual consequences at stake. Ask Him to help you continue to hold to Jesus and be useful to Him in His purpose to destroy the work of His enemies, sin, Satan, and death.
