Loving One Another With God’s Gifts (part 2)

July 19, 2020 Speaker: Albert Turner Series: Devoted

Passage: 1 Corinthians 13:1–7

Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-7

1. Recall that 1 Corinthians 13 is really a break in Paul’s thought. As he was moving into the practical instructions for the gathered church, he "suddenly" stopped to focus on love. (You can see this clearly if you note how well verses 12:31 and 14:1 connect to each other.) Why do you think Paul felt the need to stop and stress “love” in Chapter 13?

2. What attributes of love are most attractive to you? Why? Which are most challenging? Why?

3. Can you recall times in your life when your "spiritual" or moral activities seem void of real love? How did you come to see you were not operating out of love? Did God meet you in that place, and if so, how?

4. Consider what this passage tells you about the heart of God. In what ways do you recognize God’s heart in these verses? In what ways might your view of God need to more deeply informed by these verses?

5. Please take some time to pray that the Lord would help you and our whole church family move deeper into a motivation of love in our actions. Pray also that we would experience all the gifts He has for our church in healthy loving service, asking Him to clarify gifts that we already have for even more fruit, and to give us additional gifts where they would be most helpful. Pray that love would be our strong motivation to use His gifts in our church family.
